"It is the wise explorer to a foreign land that enlists the aid of an able guide".  ~ Dr. Stanley Lostalot

If you are thinking that the Big Island is a place where you might want to own property it may take you several exploratory trips before you understand the subtleties of climates, distances, water availability, medical availability, volcanic hazard zones, access to the ocean, beaches, jobs, airports, harbors, shopping, education, etc. (FYI, if you would like more information about volcanic hazard zones, this is a helpful site: hvo.wr.usgs.gov.)

I have often heard from those that now own property here that they visited the island many times before they bought anything.  I have also heard many times from those same people that they wished they had bought something long before they actually did because over the long haul it was cheaper way back when. If you have a guide, ie. a real estate agent (not to be confused with a tour guide) who knows the landscape, the process of discovery and education can be shorter and more satisfying.

Now, because the Big Island is twice as large as all the other main Hawaiian Islands put together, most real estate agents are regional specialists.  So an agent that primarily lists and sells in the resorts of Hualalai, Kukio, Mauna Lani, Waikoloa and Mauna Kea probably would refer you to a local guide in Kailua Kona, or Waimea if that is where you want to focus and that guide may refer you to a specialist in the District of Kau or Hilo or Puna, or Hamakua if that is where your interest lies.

There is a guide for everyone in every area of the Big Island. Right now is an incredible "way back when" market.  This is the time you want to buy.  The stars and planets are aligned.  All the signs are positive!  Get a guide so you can start your journey and get to your destination safely and swiftly, and find your own rainbow here on the Big Island.

Aloha,

Stan
